Purple Checklist List (2).jpg

1. Long Weekend Celebration

Most weddings can last up to four days. Typically, the bride can have a henna party kicking off the week. The next day can be followed by an at home ceremony which can be intimate. Friday can consist of a sangeet or welcome party. Finally, the next day will be the wedding ceremony and reception.

2. Ceremony Venue

Indian wedding ceremonies can be held at a temple or a hotel venue. Typically, there will be a mandap or a four pillar structure where the ceremony will be held. Be sure to not come on an empty stomach! Ceremonies can last from one to four hours!

3. The Fire

During the ceremony, the priest will light a fire for the couple to circle around. The couple will walk around the fire as a representation of their vows.

4. Colorful Indian Clothing

We are pretty sure you know this one, but this is the time to wear extremely vibrant colors. Do not wear black or white to the ceremony.

5. Grub

There will be more than enough for you to eat and drink so bring your appetite!

7. No Boxed Gifts

Indian couples tend to request no boxed gifts. Typically, this means they are requesting cash or gift certificates. Also, Indian people tend to add a $1 amount to the gift card since odd numbers are auspicious.
