Why This Moment in Weddings Feels More True to Us
Weddings today feel more honest and more personal than ever. The recent Birkenstock and Danielle Frankel bridal collaboration is a great example of this shift. In Vogue, Frankel reflects on the role designers play in shaping what weddings look like when she says “What are we doing today to mark what bridal will look like in the future?”
This collaboration rethinks familiar Birkenstock silhouettes like the Arizona, Madrid, and Boston with pearls, chiffon blooms, and hand-painted details that can be customized to each wearer. It came from a lifelong admiration for the brand and an understanding that brides and grooms today “are taking ownership and searching for realness” rather than following a rigid bridal tradition.
As a Dallas wedding planner, I see this same mindset in my clients. They are no longer asking what they are supposed to wear. They are asking “Does this feel like me?” and “Can I move and celebrate in this?” That desire for authenticity shows up in every choice from attire to décor to how the weekend unfolds.
Frankel also said of the collaboration, “We’re catering for the same woman, but she’s never wearing the pieces at the same time. To merge them together is a fun concept.” That idea of mixing comfort with elevated detail speaks to what many couples are building into their weddings today.
The real trend is not the sandal or the dusty satin. The real trend is permission. Permission to design a wedding that feels personal, true, and joyful. Not everyone will look the same, and that is exactly what makes modern weddings so exciting.
